We have all heard of the story of Sisyphus – condemned to roll a boulder up a mountain only to watch helplessly as it rolls down the mountain. And so, Sisyphus is forced to go down and repeat the process – roll up the huge boulder, watch it roll down, and repeat the process again and again, forever.
A quick Google look up gives us this – The moral of the myth of Sisyphus, particularly as interpreted by Albert Camus, is that life’s meaning comes from finding value in the struggle itself, rather than in a final, unattainable outcome. Very well, put, when we consider that the “final, unattainable outcome” is Heaven!
Billions of people dream of getting to Heaven – Finally, get to live in Barbie land! Billions of people wasting away eternity in an idle, lazy, useless & pointless existence! Heaven is a myth, a metaphor for the womb, our childhood, the past – billions dreaming of running back to their happy past as kids – fed, protected, sheltered, cared for – no work, no worries, our parents cried in private but made sure we were kept in a happy & safe bubble.
Ask any theist some simple questions – What does one DO in Heaven? What WORK? What VALUE do we add to Heaven? Why does God need us there? Can they describe a DAY? ONE DAY in Heaven with DETAILS? And watch them scurry away!
The problem is obvious – what work would the almighty God need to get done and that too need our help? Remember this is the almighty who made this huge universe, billions of galaxies, suns, planets, and trillions of life forms! The obvious answer is NOTHING! NONE! ZERO!
They try to bluff their way out by giving cheap easy answers – “We will be working for gaaawd!”, “there will be lots to do, don’t worry”, or my personal favorite “The work we will be doing will be far more fulfilling than anything we have ever done on earth” – notice the absence of DETAILS! Fantasies, Ponzi-schemes, lies, all fall apart once pressed for Details! And that is why these followers do not go there.
But what is frightening is to understand that this media will cover for them – making sure never to ask such questions and if anyone like me tries, censor us! I cannot get such questions published anywhere! Yes, in the 21st century and even in the past, the media, the educated, the intellectual shielding religion, covering up for their fantasies! Religion remains, by far, the absolute best at killing all morals, ethics!
And it is this WORK that Camus was mocking – to be in Heaven & “working” would be like being Sisyphus – endless days and nights of brain-dead “work” that achieves nothing! A useless, pointless “work”. Or, frighteningly, maybe what Camus wrote will come true – billions ending up as Sisyphus, trapped in an endless “life” of soul-crushing, mind-numbing “work” endlessly pushing up boulders up mountains and helplessly watching them roll down! Yep, they will be working for God, yep, there will be lots to do, but not sure about such work being fulfilling though.
Drooling over cheap fantasies being peddled by religions and ending up as Sisyphus! But to see bright, educated people blindly nodding to religious promises without questioning them, letting their education and brain cells die, maybe ending up as a brain-dead Sisyphus is the right ending for such people.
