It’s a good question, don’t you think? Those who are interested in Philosophy find Philosophers musing about the meaning and purpose of life, REAL LIFE! What are we doing here? Why are we here? What does it all mean? And there are few answers.
One of the best answers I liked was from Philosopher Joseph Campbell who opined that WE give our lives meaning and purpose, it does not come from outside, but from within! That made sense to me. I am sure other philosophers who grapple with this question may have other opinions and answers.
But amazingly, I find that NONE of these philosophers’ question Heaven – so far no one mentions any WORK being done in Heaven, no one even asks! The problem is obvious – we are talking about the almighty God! The being who made this HUGE Universe, a huge universe so big that it makes our earth smaller than an Atom! A being with such capabilities would have no use for us, nor need any work to be done.
And so, we end up with billions of people in an idle, lazy, useless, pointless existence for eternity! Yes Existence, not this “eternal life!” – I ask, how is this life? Sitting around chatting is life? Shamelessly sponging off God is life?
Amazingly, none of the followers ask such questions or they are told not to ask such questions or else incur the wrath of their God! And amazingly again, even the best of minds refuse to see that a religion is just using threats, hiding behind God, to avoid answering the question. But we know that all kinds of horrors can be and have been justified by claiming to speak for God.
What IS frightening is that the media does not ask such questions either, not even Atheists! Atheists seem lost – brainwashed by the idea of attacking and mocking God and not much else! God is the low-hanging fruit, the easy target and that is whom they attack.
What is sad is they fail to realize that Heaven – a life of ease & comfort, pleasures of the flesh for eternity – is what is holding up the idea of God & Religion. Without the prospect of a life of ease & comfort for eternity, most religions will die out.
But let’s get back to Philosophers. Why aren’t they asking about “life” in Heaven? What does one DO in Heaven? How do we spend our time? Is it productive? eH
Here, in the REAL WORLD, our dreams and aspirations give us meaning to life. For others it is helping those in need, fighting poverty. Others find causes to rally around – fighting disease, hate, discrimination! Helping animals, children in need, hunger!
I am quite sure, lol, that Heaven does not have hunger, disease or have animals and children needing our help. It does seem to have hate & discrimination of the worst kind though! Billions of unbelievers told that Heaven is SEGREATED, APARTHEID based on belief, religion. We are talking Nazi Germany here as families, women, children, babies will be set apart and callously dumped into burning chambers of Hell!
Heaven is for the few, the favored!
Do we have dreams and aspirations in Heaven? Again, there are few answers! Again, here in the REAL WORLD, what we dream about, aspire for does not just fall on top of our heads – whether we want to be a Astronaut, physician, movie star and so many more, they ALL take lots of hard work, sacrifice, lots and lots of pain & suffering, dealing with setbacks etc.
Does Heaven have Astronauts? What would physicians do? Are there sick people in Heaven? Are there movies in Heaven? Movie stars? What would movies be about? REAL LIFE on earth? Lol
No, this is an abracadabra world, a world of magic, miracle. Where the magic being has created a lie of ease & comfort. That is what most theists want – no one ever talked of dreams, aspirations in Heaven. Their goal is a “life” of pleasure, a KEPT “life,” an idle, lazy, useless, pointless existence self-gratifying, self-pleasuring themselves!
In such a world, asking for purpose, meaning is foolish, it does not apply. It is like asking a drug-addict only interested in getting his next fix, next high, the meaning & purpose of life – well, his is pretty clear and sadly, it seems to be the same for BILLIONS of theists – self-gratification, self-pleasure!
John Stuart Mill described it best – “Better to be Socrates Dissatisfied than a Pig Satisfied!”
Amazing to think BILLIONS of people, even the brightest of minds, are choosing to lower themselves down to lower life forms, even Pigs! Live life like a Pig!
Sadly, it seems, this includes Philosophers – the very same people who talk of looking for answers to the deepest questions of life! Well, talk is cheap, isn’t it?
I will keep saying it – Religion remains, by far, the absolute best at killing all intelligence, brain cells, brainwashing even the best of minds!
