So many countless books written on Slavery – HUMAN slavery, that is & we completely miss other slaves slaving away for us – the animals that we have enslaved & put to work for us. The worst would be the Cow, the Buffalo & some time ago the Draft Horse, put to work in the hot sun, all day long, with barely a break. Its human handlers get a water break but not them!
But this article is about the slave most of us have in our homes, affectionately called Our “Best Friend!” Are they?
WE take them away from their mothers, siblings, family as innocent babies & put them to work for us – as companion, comfort, guard, farm, bomb & drug sniffing dogs & they are employed in a few more occupations.
WE get to have families, parents, children, relatives, have get-togethers as families & enjoy all the celebrations, milestones. Find comfort in each other in troubling times – while condemning them to a solitary life, kept apart from their own kind!
If they see their own kind on the street, the owner will violently drag them away! They may not have what WE have, companionship from their own kind!
Sex once in a lifetime, most male dogs do not even know that they are Fathers, but the worst is reserved for the Females. Forced to watch with broken hearts as their kids are taken away from them one-by-one, they go through what their own mothers went through.
And we do that laughing and joking! Completely oblivious to the pain & suffering that we are causing.
Let us put ourselves in their position – imagine brand new parents, doting over their babies & then a family walks in and the kid points to one of the babies & says “this one daddy!” & they walk away with that baby & then another family & then another! All the babies have been taken away! Would we not call that cruel, inhumane? And yet we do this to our “Best Friend!”
How would we like to be kept in comfort by a Master – we get great food, a mansion to stay in, do no work, our health issues taken care of by the Master – we get to lay about all day, every day! Heaven! Right? I digress but when people talk about Heaven, I envision a Pet’s life! Educated, intelligent people letting greed brainwash them & ending up Resurrected as our Pets! Alas, they forget that every choice comes with a cost – and the cost of Heaven is the life of a Pet!
Well, the downsides – it is the same food every time! Every day! And we are confined to the mansion, we want to go out, the master will take us out on a leash! And as I wrote before, no fraternizing with our own kind unless master allows it!
And of course, there is always the threat of the good days ending at any time. The Master who dotes on us, dies, & the new owners do not care much for pets. Or we get old and get sick and our owner finds it difficult to pay for our illnesses and so we end up dumped on the countryside or find ourselves in a shelter – now our new home is a small jail cell! We hope to be adopted by a new owner, but if one is not forthcoming, they get to decide how long we get to live!
Not a good life, is it?
Our “Best Friend”? No Sir, Our Best Slave!
