Why do so many hate NIL – kids who are CENTRAL to the college game finally making some money? We see EVERYONE ELSE making big bucks – the coaches are paid millions; the announcers are paid big bucks. The Colleges, TV Networks are raking in Billions! But these kids? They must be satisfied with a free education!
How many of us have gone to a game hoping to see the coach do some coaching? Or hear the announcer? Or because it is on TV? We go to see the kids play! They are CENTRAL to game! So why are they being paid the lowest? The coaches, announcers, analysts all have agents, colleges hire tough negotiating lawyers – all of them demanding higher payouts for their clients! But these kids hiring agents? The world is ending; it must be stopped! And it is one of the experts saying this! The hypocrite!
Time was when coaches, fans and TV experts bemoaned the one-and-done players – players playing just one year of college and then bolting to the pros! But now? Thanks to NIL these kids are staying in college! Economic pressures used to force these kids to go to the pros, whether they were ready or not. But now, they stay, they get more experience, become better players – EVERYONE benefits! The colleges get better players, the game is better and the pros now get pro-ready players! Again, EVERYONE benefits!
So, what is the problem? The ugly head of Racism! How dare these kids, who are mostly black, make so much money? More than most of us? This must be stopped! They are getting an education! That should be enough for them!
How about back in the day a slave owner shouting at his slaves – you are getting free food, free housing! You want more! How dare you?
Or what if you had a great idea at work and because of it, the company is now making astounding profits – the owner is very happy, all the top guys get big bonuses but nothing for you and when you ask, the owner shouts – “YOU ARE GETTING A SALARY! FREE FOOD IN THE CAFETERIA!” Would you accept that?
Or think of you being part of a start-up, making sacrifices since there is little money, working hard but then it takes off! The owner is now swimming in money but you are still being paid the same! Would that be right?
It was one thing to talk about getting an education for free when coaches were being paid like professors but today? Coaches, analysts, announcers are making Millions! And yet we have highly intelligent, educated people telling these kids that they should be satisfied with crumbs! The more we think we are getting away from our past Racist legacy, we are reminded that we still have a long way to go! These kids are being told to go to the back of the bus!
